Iberdrola: PRIME node management and monitoring system
Automatic management and monitoring system for PRIME nodes
(Powerline Intelligent Metering Evolution).
Panel has collaborated with Iberdrola, through our client Ericsson, in the development of a management and monitoring system for PRIME nodes within Iberdrola's electrical network, using Big Data architecture.
THE CHALLENGE
Iberdrola needed to be able to manage and monitor the PRIME nodes.
Iberdrola, as part of its Smart Grid project, is deploying PRIME (PoweRline Intelligent Metering Evolution) subnets in each secondary electrical substation. The PRIME project consists of the development of a new telecommunications infrastructure for the Remote Management of Meters and Smart Grid, public, open and standard, which facilitates a secure and reliable communication of smart meters (around 11 million units) with control centers.
Iberdrola needed to be able to manage and monitor the PRIME nodes, communicating and managing Base Nodes, Auxiliary Nodes and hundreds of Service Nodes (the “Nodes”) in order to operate and maintain the PRIME subnets, regardless of the application provided by these Nodes, and the electronic device in which they are integrated.
THE SOLUTION
Development of a complete management and monitoring system for the PRIME nodes of Iberdrola's electrical network.
The solution provided by Panel in this project has been the development of a complete management and monitoring system for the PRIME nodes of Iberdrola's electrical network.
The system is comparable to the functionalities of any other commercial network management tool, enabling communication and management of base nodes, auxiliary nodes and service nodes for the operation and maintenance of the PRIME subnets.
One of the most important factors in the success of the project has been the use of ZahoríFor the automation of 2 key tasks: The automation of regression tests that ensure, in a fast and reliable way, that in each evolution of the system everything continues to function correctly, and the reuse of certain automated test cases to perform the discharge automatic in the system of thousands of nodes, saving costs and human errors.
The automation solution Zahorí has managed to discharge more than 2.000 substations in just 3 hours.

SUCCESSES ACHIEVED
Risk reduction by minimizing anomalies in the final product thanks to early feedback.
The automated entry into the data system of thousands of nodes saves costs and human errors.
Stable and robust product, capable of serving and processing information from more than 200.000 Prime nodes in less than 1 minute.

The Scrum framework has made it possible to improve testing processes, and has facilitated communications between the team and the client.
Incorporation of Big Data technologies with MongoDB as a non-relational Database has allowed the customer to reuse infrastructures.
